So far Mansa Musa has left Niani(the capital of Mecca) on his Hajj to the holy city of Mecca. He has travelled through Cairo and met with its emperor, al-Malik al-Nasir. On the cities he passed through, he gave gold to the poor and traded gold for souveniers. While his generosity was well-intentioned, this subconsequently crashed their economies by devalueing the gold, taking more than 12 years to recover. This journey revealed the wealth of Mansa Musa to the world. He is remebered as the wealthiest man to have ever lived, who would be worth $400 billion US dollars today. He is the only person in history to have directly influenced the value of gold by themselves.
